Non-stick skillet/ pan
Spatula
A table fork or egg beater for whisk
A bowl for mixing
Oil (canola or olive), or butter
3 eggs are the preferred amount
Milk is optional
Omelet fillings: get as creative! Many things go well with eggs. Some suggestions include cheddar cheese, ham, peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, or sausage.
Omelet toppings once it has been cooked, such as salsa, avocado, sour cream and cilantro.
Preparation:
Have all your ingredients ready before you start cooking. Cut, slice or dice up omelet fillings and toppings. Break eggs; place them in your bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of milk if extra fluffiness is desired. Take your fork or egg beater then whisk eggs until yolk has been broken. Make sure mixture is of an even consistency. But don’t make it too frothy.
To have a fluffier omelet, whisk eggs longer. The more you whisk your eggs, the more air gets in them. The more air you have in your eggs, the fluffier they will be. Grate your cheese. Turn on your burner to medium heat and put the frying pan on the burner until it heats up. It is important not to use high heat because eggs cook very quickly and could end up getting burned. No one wants a burned omelet!
Coat the skillet with either oil or butter and put on the stove. Once the skillet’s hot enough, pour the eggs unto it. Be sure to keep the temperature consistent. Make sure the eggs are spread throughout the skillet by slightly rotating it or tilting it to one side. Let them cook until eggs start to set. This means it starts to turn white and edges get a bit crispy.
As the omelet start to set, use your spatula (rubber is preferred) to cut along the edges. Once it has become solid, but still shiny, add your fillings. Put the omelet fillings only on half of the circle. Make sure not to overstuff it. It is also good to leave a bit of room along the edges, so that filling doesn’t spill out.
Take your spatula and make sure it is under half of the omelet. Flip the empty half over the part with your filling. Take your spatula and make sure the omelet isn’t sticking to your skillet. Once it’s free, take the skillet to your plate and let it slide on out. Add pepper and salt to taste. Now dig on in and take pleasure with your perfect omelet!
